Season 54 (29)

eng Stephen >> Τρίτη Αύγουστος 25 - 19:57, Τροποποιήθηκε Τρίτη Αύγουστος 25 - 19:57

A rare Seaburn Beach Supercup victory today. (I appreciate all things are relative, but I have double the amount of league titles than I have these pesky supercups.)

And with this, season 54 gets underway. In a move that is either genius or madness, Seaburn has sold both goal machine “Fazza” Farrington and the creative spark that is Guy “no nickname” Holsapple. Will the team suffer for this? Probably. The accountant was happy though. At least he was until I told him the news about blowing half a billion on a new GK. At that point he threw his laptop out of the window and I chastised him for wasting precious resources. I can’t repeat what he said after that.

Ah well, I hope the transfer window has been good to you all.

Good job he's a good one - or will be in 15+ seasons!

No buys for me this window; loaned out a few and selling off some average guys once I can get their asking price down far enough.  Also 1 or 2 oldies either sold or joining the club staff.  I might end up a bit thin on the ground!

25-2 on shots today but only scored in the 91st minute - not sure if that's a good or bad omen...

One buy and one loan (think I paid ott on the loan) for me. If i can climb a few places from last season I'll be happy. This is the one and only time i can say I'm currently in the top 3!!

A crucial victory away at Deeprijay Town today to get the season up and running. Cheating’s “Uncle” Ben Parker with the vital goal. Think this season is going to be a lot more difficult for the Sandmen though. Goals are going to be at a premium!

Maybe I was a little hasty in my previous post. Perhaps I should have waited for more than two games against two of the strongest sides in the division before making the doom and gloom predictions. In the last three games, the Beach have smashed in seven goals on two occasions. I’m sorry if my previous post comes off as arrogant or condescending now, particularly to the two managers who were on the wrong end of the big wins. That wasn’t my intention - I did genuinely believe what I wrote. I will however try and be a little less reactionary in future!

5 games in and Melchester are doing very well. Second only by virtue of goal difference. It’s good to see the citizens of Strood have something to cheer, with Kezza having guided his side to third. Is this the beginning of something special happening at his club. The supporters of Strood City must be fuming though. I think they’re languishing in League Two now...

EDIT: No, it’s worse than that - League 3.1!

Losing to Liverpool City, who only had half a decent team playing means that even the ME is compleatly naff or i am compleatly naff. Not sure which.

I think it’s just highlights the importance of having a very good GK. If he had your GK, you would have won easily. Still, I can understand your frustration playing against a team with some kids in it who actually have no skills whatsoever. Presumably the manager is stockpiling experience with those players, but why is unclear to me. That team used to compete at the highest level but now it seems like the manager has given up.

Strood and Collie Club have made some big strides in the off season. Good to see you both heading in the right direction!

The same top 4 as last season has formed and broken away a bit. Deeprijay not having quite the same impact this time round. Not really sure why this is the case. It looks the same team as last season, pretty much.

Further to page 2 of the season 53 thread, there were spectacular scenes following Seaburn’s away victory in the Cup against Melchester Rovers. After what must be one of the worst penalty shoot outs in the history of the game, Seaburn’s star striker Felix Donkova unveiled a t-shirt with the message “Käi pekki Farrington” on it.

Questions were asked of manager Stephen about what it meant in the post-match conference.

Q: What did the message mean, Stephen?

A: I don’t know, lads. I don’t speak Estonian. Nor does anyone at the club, for that matter. No one at all, so we’ll never know.

Q: Surely Donkova speaks Estonian?

A: No, I don’t think he does.

Q: What? He must do, he’s Estonian.

A: Erm... Anyway, I don’t think the message can have meant anything, can it? I’m sure it was all friendly as Farrington and Donkova used to play together.

Q: Hang on, didn’t Farrington have an affair with Donkova’s wife. Isn’t she now living with him in Melchester?

A: Erm, I’m sure that’s all forgotten now. Felix is a good lad. I doubt there’s any hard feelings and before anyone comments on his middle finger gestures at the end, he was just reminding someone who’d forgotten what the score was before the penalty shootout. Anyway, must dash, lads. The coach is parked on a double yellow.

A rare TV interview immediately after the match with Dylan Farington.
Q: Do you have any message for your ex-striking partner Donkova after today's hat-trick winning performance?

A: "In our recent match, Donkova scoring one," said Farrington, holding up his middle finger to the camera. "Today I managed to score three," he smiled, holding up two more fingers on the other hand. "That is my only message to Donkova."

Q: Is there any truth in the rumours, Dylan, that Roy Race has a written clause in your contract that you are only allowed to break a celibacy vow if you score on the pitch?

A: Let's just say that after today's hat-trick, Mrs Donkova and I will be celebrating long into the night. And then again. And then again. I'll send Felix Donkova the video if he likes. Mind you I'm sure in a little while he'll be able to find it in a google search.

Roy Race was unavailable for comment, but the club has confirmed that hand gestures that Farrington made are completely unacceptable and do not represent the club's view. Farrington has been dealt with internally by the club and he will stand in the naughty corner for a very long time.

A last minute winner from Uncle Ben Parker against third place Newcastle gave Seaburn Beach the three points. The ref blew for full time as soon as the ball hit the net, sparking rumours that all was not above board. Seaburn Beach released a club statement denying any allegations of foul play. It said:

”The club strongly deny any allegation of wrongdoing. No brown envelopes were handed over to any of the match officials and anyone who says that they saw Stephen handing over a particularly large brown envelope brimming full of £50 notes to the referee with £50 notes just before the second half began is a liar.”
