tuesday january 7 - 12:42 I agree with the sentiment in your first post - i am sure that most of would like to celebrate freedom and democracy after many years of tyranny.
However, that time has not yet arrived.
There have been absolutely no elections - and none are planned in the forseeable future. The current regime in charge is still a proscribed terrorist organisation in many western countries. Many in the minority communities are living in great fear at what comes next.
What eventually replaces the former regime might turn out to be just as bad as - or worse than their predecessors. Moreover, there are a number of different groups - including other countries - that have territorial ambitions both within Syria and the wider region. Things could still explode again at any moment.
This is politics. Let's leave it there shall we.
