But this does not reduce the museum income by 50%.
The new income gets reduced to around 25-35% depending on the level. In practice most clubs will see the museum income drop to around 30% after it gets downgraded. That's a reduction in museum income of 65-75%.
The new formula would be: [37.8(L/2)^2 + 602*(L/2) - 640]
Divided by the original: [37.8*L^2 + 602*L - 640]
For clubs with very high level museums then L is very large and the new formula gives roughly 25% of the original income. When the museum level is quite low then the squared term is less significant and the income drops to around 30-35%.
Or to word this another way. If you double the museum level then you get roughly 3-4 times the income.
