World Cup (38)

The Rocking Soccer World Cup is currently taking place in Norway.

Turkey is ranked number two in the world and has gotten off to a decent start with a 3-1 victory over El Salvador.

Wales, the defending champions, were defeated in their first match of the tournament 3-1 by the Cook Islands.

Norway, the hosts, played to a 1-1 draw against Senegal.

After managing Wales to the championship last time around, MarnixStar will attempt to lead the Netherlands to a third World Cup title. They begin the group stage with a match against Paraguay.

China enters the tournament as number one in the world rankings, and will face the Bahamas in their first match.

I think China are the favorites to win it all, followed by Turkey and the Netherlands. Cook Islands have made a strong start as well with their victory against Wales.

A less than ideal start for the Netherlands. 1-1 draw against Paraguay, center-back Mascherano will miss the next match after being sent off for a second yellow card.

Kosovo with an impressive 4-0 win over East Timor.

  • The Netherlands is currently the only country to have won two World Cups, which they achieved in consecutive tournaments. Hong Kong, Spain, China, Turkey, Jamaica, England, Estonia, Latvia, and Wales have each won once.
  • Six of the ten countries that have won the World Cup previously also qualified for the current one (Netherlands, China, Turkey, Estonia, Latvia, and Wales). Hong Kong, Spain, Jamaica, and England failed to do so.
  • Group 3 (Turkey and Wales) and Group 8 (China and Estonia) both feature multiple past champions.
  • Based on the current world rankings, the lowest ranked national team playing at the World Cup is Macau (90th), followed by Uzbekistan (78th), East Timor (77th), and Israel (61st). The highest ranked teams that failed to qualify are Germany (15th) and Morocco (17th).

Côte d'Ivoire, France, and Belgium all finish level with five points in Group 1. Côte d'Ivoire and France go through on goal difference. Belgium, #6 in the world rankings, unfortunately is out of the World Cup.

Latvia and Ghana advance from Group 2. No surprises there.

Turkey comfortably tops Group 3. El Salvador unexpectedly takes second place, ahead of Cook Islands and defending champions Wales.

Hosts Norway finish on top of Group 4, followed by Peru.

On group 7, six matches played:

4 matches ended 0-0

2 matches ended 1-0

Chinese Taipei no goal scored no concede. 3 points, eliminated.

Recorded as most boring group of history of World Cup.

British Virgin Islands vs. Chinese Taipei was actually a quite entertaining game. Chinese Taipei subbed out both of their fullbacks at half-time and switched to a 3-3-4 formation in the second half, British Virgin Islands had several chances, somehow the match remained scoreless.

The problem is how would you score against B.V. Islands keeper?

I remember a keeper won the World Cup once even the team was mediocre. Yes i am talking about Kearns of Jamaica. Will history repeat?

When it gets to the Semis that Keeper will be finished. Endurance will be in the negative and he'll get injured!

Happened to me with Nicaragua. We had a really great keeper and nothing else really. The tournament really takes it's toll on older players.
