Delft in finals after dramatic victory

For an hour, Delft seemed headed for a routine victory on the Houtsnippers. After winning both league matches with 4-0, Delft was leading with "only" 1-0 in the cup semi-finals when for the second league game in a row goalkeeper Barry fell out with injury.

All substitutions had already been made so defender De Boer had to take the place in the goal again. Until that point, the Houtsnippers didn't have many chances to score while Delft could easily have had a bigger lead, but without a real keeper the home team needed only 10 minutes to jump to a 2-1 lead.

With some of the decisive players still tired from international duty, prospects didn't look good when extra time would be needed and (without a keeper) even worse if the match would end in a penalty shootout. At this point, even reaching extra time would be an achievement for Invincible with 10 players and no keeper.

Still, they didn't give up and were rewarded when Dost scored the 2-2 in the 86th minute. Delft even had chances to finish the match in regular time when they were given 4 (!) corners in the final minutes but they weren't that lucky.

The tired Delft team could only hope the Houtsnippers would be even more tired of this match. In the extra time Delft quickly took a 2-3 lead from a free kick in the 93rd minute. This broke the fighting spirit of the home team who may have lacked confidence against the team they had lost their previous 4 encounters with.

Delft remained the more dangerous team in extra time, knowing they couldn't risk a penalty shootout. When Fersyeur scored the 2-4 the Delft manager jumped from his seat and almost ran on the field to celebrate the victory, forgetting the second half of extra time still had to be played. In spite of a few chances for the Houtsnippers it stayed 2-4 so Delft still has a chance to win the first dutch cup.

Strong run of Delft ends with defeat by Gilze en Rijen

After losing two consecutive league matches against Cambuur and Lost Keys, Invincible had been won 16 of their last 17 league and cup matches, climbing to a second place in the league and a place in the finals of the cup.

Today they were put in their place again as they couldn't impress at all against the weakest team in the league. After getting a 0-0 draw at home they should have been warned, but in spite of getting a 0-1 lead they couldn't avoid losing the match.

Invincible falling apart

Delft keeps dissapointing. They broke a three match losing streak with a home victory over Rijsoord, but today they lost at home against Astar. Champions League seems to be definitely out of sight now, and fair is fair: if you lose to the two weakest teams in league you have no bussiness in the Champions League.

Lost Keys wins the cup

After an excellent victory against Cambuur in the quarter finals and a dramatic extra-time win over SC Houtsnippers in the semi-finals, Invincible failed to impress in the finals against The Lost Keys.

The Lost Keys was the better team right from the start till the end when they lifted the first cup trophy. They took an early 2-0 lead which Delft was unable to recover from.

Victory again

The season is more or less over for Delft now that the cup campaign is over and Champions League is out of sight. Delft will almost certainly start the Europa League in the group stage next year due to their cup result.

That doesn't mean we won't continue to fight for every point though. After losing 5 of the last 6 matches the team suffers from a severe lack of confidence.

For this reason we had to win against Almere at home, but this proved to be not an easy task. Dost put Delft at a 1-0 lead in the first half and while the team failed to increase the margin they nervously held on to their lead till the 89th minute. Just when they were thinking they won, Almere scored the equaliser!

This seemed like a new disaster added to the series of dissapointing results, but in extra time the veteran midfielder Sadami scored as well so Delft still won.

Invincible beats Houten

Delft still has a theoretical chance to qualify for the champions league after winning against Houten today. Delft took an 2-0 lead and held it to half-time. But in the second half the goalkeeper got injured and shortly after a penalty was awarded to the visitors.

Young keeper van der Male didn't stand a chance to stop the penalty taken by the league topscorer Kriele. With an inexperienced keeper and 2-1 score Delft seemed going for a classic fail scenario. Young Hoogteijling, who was absent from the team for a while scored the 3-1 though and while Delft had to concede the 3-2 in the final minutes the victory wasn't threatened any more.

Delft will now have to beat Beawulf away by a big margin in the final match though to qualify for champions league so the chance still seems to be only theoretical.
