Season 81 (39)

eng Stephen >> vendredi juin 28 - 21:57

A new season is upon us. I'd probably have to say Bakerman will be the favourite for the title again, but Lee appears to have gone all in this season.

Unless Oxford logs in soon and buys a GK, I think we have our 20th place team.

As Stephen noted I have 'gone all in', by spending around 800M on strengthening the team but I have no title aspirations - it's a top 6 finish and Europe that I'm looking for..........which would be a lot more achievable if everyone else stopped buying players.

Let battle commence!

Last player I bought was 8 seasons ago I think, and the one before that another 10 seasons...

BakerMan - I applaud how disciplined you are (and how you've stayed so competitive). I love spending money!

You must be sitting on a crapload of cash.

I invested very early to go to level 5 YA - all my current players are graduates of that.

Went slightly mad during the stupid goalkeeper days and bought Tibon and his enormous wages just to see if that was my missing link to win (it was!), but that meant my finances didn't work anymore and I had to downgrade the YA to level 3...

Just nearing the end of the level 5 YA graduates coming into the team (maybe 2 more seasons), so I now either need to upgrade again or start buying in key positions (maybe for 4 seasons time) - I've got the cash now, just can't decide what to do...

Also, I am useless in the transfer market and far too lazy to put the effort in to change!

I do use the transfer market for my second team in South Sudan, but that is a very very easy league - haven't drawn or lost a game for over 2 seasons there...

Looking at your team Lee, I'd say you are serious contenders this season...

Round 1 of the EL. I dimly recall my excitement of getting into this competition the first time and negotiating those early rounds. I imagine things will get a whole lot tougher for the Beach before we can reach the group stage.

But, for now, a comfortable 4-0 away win against Swedish opponents that sets the scene to play some even weaker players for the return leg.

BakerMan - your playing strategy is the complete opposite of mine, as upgrading facilities (other than the museum) is bottom of my priority list, but it's interesting how competitive you've remained by relying solely on your youth academy players. It would appear the road I took is not paved with gold.

Oh well....I need the buzz of buying players, even if it might only be a short-term fix.

I think what that proves is that there a number of different ways to be successful. Whichever method you choose the key factor seems to be managing your finances well over the long term.

Stephen seems to have been the master at doing that, at least in England.

This season is going to be a bit weird though I think - unless things change very soon, there are some (lets be nice and say) not very good teams in the division...

Squeaked/eased through* in my EL Q2 tie today. Overcame a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 on aggregate with a goal from my LB to get things underway. Probably a deserved result on the balance of play across the two legs, but I am now not confident of making it to the group stage. Hopefully I can get a kind draw to help get me there.

Have Oxford given up? If I can score 10(ten) against a team then they have problems!

Looks like Oxford are in a rebuilding phase.......starting with a new keeper.

Unless he improves his team he'll probably drop down a couple of levels.

He's started building YA5, so most likely will wait until they start coming through.
