Correct (4)

Does anyone know how much duelling equivalent is the correct attribute? For example, if I want to ensure my midfielders (except DM) and forwards almost never get suspended/red-carded then along with correct attribute how much duelling do they need?

There is no direct comparison. This is how it works:

Correct

  • Player commits fewer fouls and gets fewer yellow or red cards.

The Foul

  • The success chance of a tackle depends mostly on the dueling skill of the player attempting the tackle. The player with the ball can decrease the success chance with his own dueling skill, speed and tactics.
  • If a tackle is unsuccessful, the chance that this will result in a free kick or a card depends on the speed and tactics of both involved players.

Although duelling may be the main factor in a successful tackle, in the event that the tackle fails then it appears to have no further bearing on the chances of a foul, which depends mostly on the speed and tactics of both players.

In other words very high duelling doesn't prevent any fouls, it just makes the tackles more likely to be successful.

But it's never that simple as there are many other factors involved.

Match Tactics

  • Pressing - will attempt more tackles ... and are more likely to get cards

Specials

  • Shielding - player gets a defensive bonus
  • Dirty - players dueling with this player have a higher chance to get cards, player also gets more cards himself
  • Aggressive - is stronger in tackles, but more likely to get cards
  • Hot-tempered - is more likely to get a card when his team is behind
  • Agile - 25% chance to avoid a duel

The match engine works with turns. Every minute, two turns are executed. A turn consists of two phases:

Movement

In the movement phase, all players can move one or two steps. Whether or not they move depends on their position and speed. In this phase, the player with the lowest tactics has to move first. The higher the tactics of a player, the later he can move. This means he knows where the other players moved before he has to move himself

Actions

In the action phase, all players get a chance to make an action. An action can for example be to pass the ball to a team member, to try to capture the ball from an opponent or to attempt to score. In this phase, the player with the highest tactics acts first.

The above information is all sourced from the game itself.

My interpretation

For there to be a foul 3 things have to happen in the following order, all based on probabilities.

1. Will there be an attempt to make a tackle?

2. Was the tackle successful?

3. Is it a foul, and possibly a yellow or red card.

1. The chance of an attempted tackle

During the action phase an opponent in the same game region as the player with the ball has to decide whether to attempt a tackle or not. If there are multiple opponents in the same region the player with the highest tactics will go first.

We're given very little information about this but it will be a calculation based on probabilities. The chance of a tackle being attempted is influenced by the match tactics: Pressing, Normal or Easy. (Attempts more tackles). Playing position is also a factor in the frequency of attempting tackles (it's in the Help).

I think it's likely that the Agile attribute '25% chance to avoid a duel' affects this calculation, rather than the outcome of the tackle itself. This suggests to me that an attempt was going to be made but Agile causes a further calculation which has a 25% chance of avoiding the tackle altogether. In which case no tackle is attempted, and so there can't be a foul either.

2. The success of the tackle

In the event a tackle is attempted then there is a further calculation to determine the chances of success. This is described earlier and depends mostly on the duelling of the player attempting the tackle.

In addition the chances of a successful tackle are further influenced by the specials of Shielding (defensive bonus) and Aggressive (may apply to both tackler and player with ball).

Pressing seems to have no influence on this part. (More tackles not better ones).

3. The chances of a foul or a card

In the event the tackle was unsuccessful then there is a further calculation to determine one of 4 possible outcomes: no foul, free kick, yellow card, red card.

This depends on the speed and tactics of both involved players, and is further influenced by the match tactics: Pressing, Normal or Easy; and also by the  following specials: Correct, Dirty, Aggressive and Hot-tempered.
