short.... keeper? (6)

ca George LGeorge >> dimanche août 25 - 10:04

Is a Short keeper worthwhile?  you get the speed bonus but the penalty for cornerkicks and free kicks.  And I've noticed there's a fair amount of free kicks goals that can happen.

What about Supersub?  If you have a high talent player but has supersub - is that so detrimental to not make him a keeper (assuming he plays the whole game)

There's no definite answer to this so you might get different opinions.

I would say that Short is okay for a keeper, the increased speed more than outweighs the negatives. But I would avoid Supersub for a keeper, he'll always play worse in every match unless you avoid the penalty - which would be a major headache in the long term.

If a supersub is a  high - much higher than everyone else on your team- talent , he will likely be your best option at a position even with the penalties. Will  the bonus help get you something extra if he played only the second half than if he played in the starting line up with the penalty ? If I assume it's the equivalent of a +/- 0.15 swing in skills,  at higher levels, your Supersub keeper in the starting lineup wil need to accumulate 39k+ more experience to be as useful as he would have been if he wasn't a Supersub. If the penalty is bigger he will need to accumulate more experience. The other option -based on my interpretation of the supersub description that he doesn't get a penalty if he is not in the starting lineup - is to waste/spend 1 substitution bringing  the supersub GK on in the 1st minute.  All of that makes making  a supersub a GK an interesting choice at best.

TLDR; I would play my supersub high-talent as a field player rather than as a GK.

Great point Numpty - the advantage speed bonus for being short - versus the penalty against free kicks - may indeed even out.

I had a Short keeper for my Canvey team in England and I also played him when managing the Nicaraguan NT. The Short attribute didn't seem to hinder him at all. As Numpty said, the Speed bonus outwayed everything.
