We got a fairly fortunate draw in the world cup. We drew Vietnam, France, and Peru, who are ranked 29th, 11th and 54th in the world, respectively.

The US, being ranked #7 is actually the favorite of the group. We did avoid a group of death, but it is by no means a guaranteed thing. France and Vietnam will be tough, but I think we can squeeze a 2nd round spot out of it.

It looks like the World Cup groups were drawn using a similar algorithm to the real World Cup. Since Israel and Hong Kong didn't make it, we got seeded, automatically avoiding Brazil (home team advantage), The Netherlands, China, Italy, Argentina, North Korea, and Spain. However, we also have the highest ranked non-seeded team in our group, France. Dropping points to Peru or Vietnam could be disastrous. Beating France could lead to winning the group. Should be fun to watch!

I'll take France over any of those other teams.

The World Cup starts tomorrow. It was nice of the schedule-maker to schedule a match in Namibia 29 minutes before the first World Cup match in Peru....

A catastrophic 93rd minute goal probably just cost us our world cup hopes.

It's not the end of the world. There are still 2 games left, and -1 GD is the best possible GD after a loss (and the other game was 2-1 as well). I don't think any team in the division is so good that anyone has much more than a 50% (assuming similar tactics) at winning any game.

Yeah. Need Peru to win and must beat France by more than 1.
