Has anyone else noticed an increase in penalties this season? I seem to have given away at least one in almost all my games so far! Its starting to get beyond a joke now!
No, I haven’t. Do you have high tactics and relatively low duelling? Do your players have ‘correct’?
The odd penalty now and again is unremarkable and can probably be put down to bad luck. If it keeps happening, this is not down to luck and there’s a problem with your team.
The amount of penalties certainly isnt down to bad luck! I think i gave away 2 or 3 all last season and theres no real change in players or tactics. I'll change them slightly and see what happens
The players you’re playing against now are much stronger and I suspect trained a bit differently to League 2 opposition. You just need to adapt to the style.
Im guessing it will be a steep learning curve this season! Any pointers are gladly accepted! Ive gone from walking away with L2 and losing 2 games (only due to squad rotation) to having a v weak defence and struggling to score!! Ive tried a couple of formations so far and its trying to find that balance!
Looked at your last few games - 2 defenders without correct, 3 penalties and a free kick leading to a goal given away by those 2 players. Train them in correct ASAP - absolutely vital in this league.

Another 2 penalties today, against a team on paper is not a lot better!! Why is there more in this league than in L2 when ive played a lot of the same teams in the last few seasons?

Nope, took pressing off. Have it as normal. Its a steep learning curve this season which i expected. If by fluke i survive I'll class that as an achievement
I looked at your last match. The player who gave away the 2 penalties is Aggressive and doesn't have Correct.
In my opinion playing him in the centre of defence - without Correct - is suicidal. The only surprise is if he hasn't given away a lot of penalties previously.
Yeah, that's whats been pointed out already. Plenty of yellow cards this season aswell!! Hes suspended now and one of my other players will have the correct skill soon so it gives me a bit of time to sort him out
I realise that Correct had already been mentioned. But it's made slightly worse in his case because of the Aggressive. It's also more dangerous in the centre, a fullback without Correct might give away free kicks, but they are less likely to be penalties.
What I can't explain satisfactorily is why it seems to have got a lot worse this season. The quality of the opponent's players (Speed, Duelling and Tactics) is a factor, but this probably isn't going to be much different from the attacking players in Level 2.
It could simply be down to being fortunate in Level 2.
But I do have a theory - which is that it could be down to your Match plan.
If you are playing something like 'play to win' and then going behind against better opponents then you will be playing offensively which gives a penalty to Blocking and Duelling - that in itself will mean more missed tackles.
In L2 the reverse would be true. If you are ahead and then play defensively then your tackles will be more successful.
I guess I'll find out in a few days time when I'll have a backline all with correct. I can't put down to luck in L2 as i was reaching the playoffs a few seasons in a row and hardly a hint of penalties. It will come eventually, just hope its not once im relegated! Lol
I’ve had a look at your defence now and I think ‘correct’ will help. But I also think the duelling on your players is quite low and the tactics is quite high. Your players are trying to do the right thing, but my sense is that their skill is too low to help.
The players you’re coming up against now are miles better than the L2 opposition you had last season. The midfielders you’re facing now have so much more passing than you’ll have previously faced. Strikers will have a bundle more scoring too.
It’ll take time to address this problem and probably some money too. In the meantime, try to hang in there!
