If their pos xp is around 1000 then it won't change very much, so will have a smaller effect on the star rating. But it also depends on the players position and where he plays in the match.
In your case you had a defender playing as a DM, so his defence xp went down by -4.37 from 937 to 933. Which resulted in a drop of his star rating as a defender. If he'd played as a defender then the xp would have gone up instead by +0.63, which is a much smaller change.
The only safe approach is to record the player's details on the day, after he's played any matches and before the training finishes.
