I made this because I was filling up other threads with information that doesn't belong there. Here you can talk about whatever.

I'll open this by discussing some things I find interesting about Belgium. (Yes...I'm bored at work haha)

1. 220,000 Tones of Chocolate are produced each year. (22 Kg per inhabitant, annually)

2. Over 800 different beers are made in Belgium.

3. Along with Italy, they were the first to offer electronic ID cards in 2003.

4. Belgium has compulsory education up until 18 years old which is the highest in the world along with others.

5.Possesion of 3 grams of cannabis/marijuana is legal in Belgium (Wooo!)

6.Tax levels are among the highest in the world. Inheritance tax of up to 80% (Madness)

7. Belgium grants the most new citizenships per capita other than CANADA.

8. Belgium has compulsory voting and is apparently enforced strongly.

9. Europe's first Casino opened in Spa, 1763.

10. The Saxophone was created by Adolphe Sax in Dinant, 1840's

11. 97% of televisions receive cable which is the highest in the world.

There's obviously a lot more than this and I'm leaving out pretty much all the stuff that actually matters. I'm just doing this for fun.

I'm sure some of the fine inhabitants of Belgium can correct me or add to this. I may just do one of these once in awhile. Considering most of my knowledge of other continents come from soccer, I should take the time to learn a little.

A post on Belgium with no mention of Hercule Poirot *shakes head*

12. Brussels sprouts really do come from Belgium and have grown in the Brussels area for over 400 years.

13. Fellani has the best haircut in world football since Carlos Valderrama and Jason 'pineapple on his head' Lee.

14. In Belgium ‘French fries’ are called ‘Belgian fries’. The Belgians claim to have invented them.

I am also bored at work.

@Alex I avoided putting 14 down because I thought it might spark some kind of turf war with the French.

I hate Brussel Sprouts, they suck! I HATE them.

It's not about soccer but it's real life. General discussion forum is for RS.

The threads are titled "General Discusion" and "Real Life Soccer". Not to be a dick, but I think you can understand why I posted it here as opposed to the other forum.

But do as you will.

The description says it all.

General discussion - "Discuss the game, strategy or new ideas to improve the game."

"Real life soccer" section has always been about everything else than RS.

But it's not clear so it's understandable you started it there, no worries.

5.Possesion of 3 grams of cannabis/marijuana is legal in Belgium (Wooo!)

It's not really legal its more like a grey zone where they won't arrest you for small amounts but they might still take it from you..., in Antwerp there's a zero tolerance.

14. In Belgium ‘French fries’ are called ‘Belgian fries’. The Belgians claim to have invented them.

We just call them Fries

@Ralph

It's something very similar around here. I think it's more like 5 grams though. It's been awhile since I cared to know about this.

I had a cop take 2 grams from me maybe a decade ago, it wasn't a big deal.

I know you English boys call them "chips" but is do other countries call the that or is that a UK thing? What you call crisps, we call chips.

Yep, I know you call crisps chips. But you can't spell things like colour right either, so we won't hold it against you ;-p lol.

@Drag Actually, it's the Americans who spell it "Color". In Canada it's proper to use "Colour" or "Color".

I always have a small laugh when I hear a Brit say "Aluminium". We spell and say it "Aluminum" which sounds quite different.

I'm sure there are plenty of these. It seems that it has something to do with having two vowels, simultaneously. America doesn't like doing that, I guess.

To Sum: Canadians use some English and some American spellings and occasionally it's proper to use both. We're pretty easy going about it.

@Opelis Both those Countries interest you, do they? How about I do one on the Ukraine because I'm technically a quarter Ukrainian and I should probably get to know that Country a little better.

I'll post something a bit later or tomorrow at work if somebody doesn't beat me to it.

Maybe I should do one about your country as well. All I really know about Latvia is Sandis Ozolinsh and Arturs Irbe. Irbe was the last Standup style Goalie in the NHL.

I have to say that I am not the most cultured individual as I don't know a heck of a lot about much outside of North America. I hated history and geography in school but Soccer has definitely made me more curious about these things.
