Are Assists not included in the statistics for Crosses and Passes?

In this match, match-25916126 , LM (7) J Suryanarayan recorded an assist in the 14th minute but even in the 23rd minute his Statistics Page shows

Passes completed -

Crosses 0%(0/2)

As far as I can work out - in the statistics - assists count as crosses and not as passes. That's how my matches seem to work. I suggest you re-check your own match. There does seem to be a bug in the match replay feature. If you play the game forwards and then backwards the statistics don't always appear to update correctly.

However, some of the match commentary is wrong - or probably just bad English. Vincent isn't a native speaker and poor English is evident in many other parts of the game.

  • 59. Yap (6) gives a perfect assist to Herbaux (4) but his shot flies just inches wide.

An assist means that you assisted another player to score a goal. If they don't score then it's not an assist.  A perfect assist that doesn't result in a goal is nonsense. So this line should read 'gives a perfect cross' or 'perfect pass'.

Off-topic followup question! Do you know if phrases like that are actually related to the engine calculation? e.g. maybe in your example the attempt succeeded on a pass check, but failed on the scoring attempt? I've been wondering about this to make sure I punish the right players :)

That would be my assumption. But broadly, those players would get fewer goals/assists so it would show up that way.

I am of the opinion that each match event has roughly 2 different phrases to describe the same thing. This avoids repetition to try and make it a little more interesting. I may be wrong.

Thank you!

I replayed the match today and the assist increased his crosses count. The bug in replay explains it.

That's good.

To explain this in a bit more detail, the statistics record 2 different types of passes, these are passes and crosses.

https://rockingsoccer.com/en/soccer/help/home/category-1/article-2

Passes are non-scoring attempts

These are defined in the Help as a 'Pass event'. They are ordinary passes where the receiver does not try to immediately score. These may or may not be successful.

Crosses are all scoring attempts

These are defined in the Help as an 'Assist event'.

  • If the pass fails then this is recorded in the stats as a failed cross.
  • If the pass is successful then the player immediately attempts to score. This is recorded as a successful cross whether or not the shot is successful.

Other scoring attempts (from open play) which are known as a 'Shot event' are not recorded as crosses or as assists. The player with the ball must have been passed to at some point but if he scores the original passer is not recorded as assisting the goal.
