Okay. Finish the season now (and don't allow Cardiff to change their name, or I might have to become Aardvark FC).

5 games in and the table is already taking a pretty familiar shape...

It seems that the league is getting stronger every season.

As the teams improve everyone throws more money at buying players and paying stupidly high wages. In the longer term that becomes a battle of finances and who can run their clubs most efficiently.

I've also noticed a knock-on effect down in tier 2, which has got a fair bit stronger over the last few seasons.

Yes this has become less of a football management game and more of an accountancy management simulation for me.

How many teams come up from L2 and survive? I know I'm going to struggle this season, and don't think I have the budget in mind season transfer window to buy the reinforcements I need! 2 or 3 defenders and the same in midfield to be in with a realistic chance!

Firstly, I have to say well done to Blackwhite who has done a fantastic job since he came up, but most of the others have struggled.

The quality in the top tier is such that you now have to spend fairly big just to be around mid-table. Fair play to those clubs who do as well as they can every season with their available funds, because that's good honest effort.

However, in my mind if you don't think you can get the players to mount a serious challenge you may as well concentrate on other things until you can. Either building facilities or making money or both.

Most likely this is why there are a number of clubs in L2 who have 'accidentally' got relegated and a number of others who aren't trying too hard to go up. It's a poisoned chalice.

It's no surprise that as far as I can tell there is a lot more wealth held by clubs in tier 2 than at the top.

Interestingly some of the L2 clubs also struggle to balance their books and spend most of their money, but others are simply treading water while also making a mint.

Lost to Stephen today (no surprise there) but it was only 2:1, and his winner came courtesy of a 72nd minute own goal........would have preferred my usual stuffing.

I'd have swapped my usual stuffing for your 2-1 Lee.

Big day for European matches coming up - 4 English teams need a result to progress, Seaburn already safely through to the next round.

The less said about my European results this season the better...in fact its been a very very mediocre set of results in all competitions for my senior team! The U21s showing them how its done again...

Halfway there and at the top things took a big turn in the last few matches before that. Cardiff, who had been very strong at the start of the season, dropped some points and Canvey Island roared past them into second. Still two sides unbeaten this season which is a rare sight.

With a six point lead, I'm pretty hopeful that Seaburn can win it and finish the job of 20 league titles in a row.
