Season 83 RECAP

FC Ulhasnagar

FC Ulhasnagar dominated the league with 94 points, 31 wins, and a mere 9 goals conceded. Their goal difference of +250, fueled by 259 goals scored, showcased unmatched attacking firepower and defensive solidity. Losing just once all season, they were untouchable and set a benchmark for excellence. Their ruthless consistency made them deserving champions, crushing nearly every opponent. The All-Indian team is looking forward for another dominating season.

Goal Diggers

Goal Diggers narrowly missed out on the title, finishing with 92 points and just 2 losses. Their attack delivered 160 goals, while their defense was almost impenetrable, conceding only 12 goals. Despite their brilliance, they fell short in crucial moments against top rivals despite winning a game agsint them. A well-balanced and consistent team, they remain strong contenders to claim the title in the future.

Top Scorers:

N. Viveiros (FC Ulhasnagar) stands out with a staggering 113 goals in 31 matches, showcasing his unmatched finishing ability and dominance. C. Bon (Goal Diggers) follows with 75 goals in 33 matches, emphasizing Goal Diggers' potent attack. FC Ulhasnagar’s V. Mangolkar (65 goals) and Goal Diggers’ F. Böhm (64 goals) reflect their teams’ goal-scoring prowess. These stats underline the dominance of the league’s top two teams.

  Mohun Bagan

Mohun Bagan claimed third place with 76 points, boasting 24 wins and just 5 losses. Scoring 105 goals and conceding only 23, they showed balance but lacked the firepower of the top two. They struggled against the two elite teams, which limited their title chances. Still, their consistency and potential promise an even stronger performance next season.

Inazuma XI

Inazuma XI finished fourth with 65 points, driven by an exciting attack scoring 90 goals. However, their defense conceded 32 goals, holding them back against stronger teams. With 20 wins, they were competitive but inconsistent. Their entertaining, high-energy style thrilled fans, and with improved defensive organization, they could challenge higher in the standings next season. M. Gand (a name that elicited chuckles from local fans) was their top scorer with 52 goals from 32 games.

Thundering Pune

Thundering Pune finished sixth with 42 points, narrowly clinching the Asian league qualification spot over Air FC and Nepal Police Club inthe very last week of the footballing season. Their season included 11 wins, 9 draws, and 13 losses, with 44 goals scored and 43 conceded. While inconsistent, they delivered when it mattered, beating direct rivals to secure their position. They’ll need greater consistency to compete internationally, their defense really does need work as their main keeper Ling-kung Dong is aging.

Nepal Police Club

Nepal Police Club finished seventh with 40 points, falling just short of sixth place. Their 11 wins were offset by 15 losses, with 47 goals scored and 69 conceded, reflecting a shaky defense. Despite their mid-table finish, they showed moments of promise but lacked the consistency to challenge higher. Improvement in attack will be key to a better next season.

Air FC

Air FC also finished with 40 points, but their 12 wins were overshadowed by 17 losses and a poor defensive record of 128 goals conceded. While they scored a respectable 61 goals, their inability to stop opponents cost them crucial games. Despite glimpses of potential, their defense was their undoing, and addressing this weakness will be crucial for future success. They desperately need a new keeper.

FC Faridabad #2

FC Faridabad #2 managed 34 points, finishing ninth in a largely disappointing campaign. With only 9 wins and a goal difference of -28, they struggled to find consistency. Scoring just 35 goals while conceding 63, they were often outplayed. Their defense needs significant improvement, and their attack must become more clinical if they hope to climb the table.

FC Etah

FC Etah had a dreadful season, finishing with only 17 points. Scoring just 32 goals and conceding a massive 148, they suffered 26 losses, highlighting their defensive frailty. Despite managing 5 wins, they lacked any real competitiveness throughout the campaign. Major changes will be needed if they want to avoid becoming perennial strugglers at the bottom of the table.

Mariners

The Mariners had an equally poor season, finishing with 17 points, tied with FC Etah. Their 35 goals scored couldn’t make up for their 153 conceded, leading to 26 losses. Their defense was among the worst in the league, and their attack lacked impact. To avoid another dismal season, they need a complete overhaul across all areas of the team. They retained their appearance for the next season after thrashing FC Delhi 7-1 at home and 11-1 away.

FC Bahadurgarh

FC Bahadurgarh....  they were the worst team by far, ending the season with 0 wins and 0 points, they had a disastrous season. Not only did they fail to win a single game, but they also couldn’t even muster a single goal all season—yes, a grand total of zero goals scored! (Bahadurgarh's G.Khosa has two own-goals to his name though)

To make matters worse, their defense was nothing short of a leaky sieve, conceding a jaw-dropping 213 goals. That’s an average of over 6 goals per game, which is practically an open invitation for opponents to treat their matches as practice sessions. Losing all 33 matches, they failed to show even basic competitiveness.

At this point, you have to wonder if their goalkeeper was taking naps or if their strikers were aiming for the moon.

Their performances were so poor they became the league’s laughing stock.  It’s safe to say this season has been an embarrassment for the team, the fans, and quite possibly the sport itself. Better luck next time—if they dare return.

FC Bahadurgarh make way for FC Baahubali.

P.S. It takes guts to be a fan of this team therefore the name FC Bahadurgarh is quite apt.

FC Baahubali

FC Baahubali delivered a phenomenal campaign in the second division of the Indian Football League, finishing first place with an extraordinary 99 points from 33 matches. They were invincible throughout the season, winning every single game with an unmatched 33-0-0 record. Their goal difference of +294 (304 goals scored and only 10 conceded) highlights their dominance in both attack and defense. This incredible form not only secured promotion but also established them as a team capable of competing at the highest level.

While their numbers are undeniably impressive, some might argue that the second division competition lacked the depth to truly test their mettle. Their ability to replicate such dominance against stronger teams in the top division remains to be seen. Regardless, this season has set the stage for FC Baahubali to prove their mettle at the highest level, where their tactics, consistency, and resilience will face a far sterner challenge. Time will tell if they can sustain their success against tougher opponents.

Great review, Dr. Arpit! Lovely review of FC Bahadurgarh! Great knowledge of the English language btw :-)

More of the same from my team is to be expected. But I am planning my stadium upgrade, long-planned..., in this mid-season. I just hope to stay above Etah and just stay out of direct relegation troubles. Despite Baahubali being a direct rival, I hope for a safe season for them too.
