Season 71 (54)

eng Monk >> tuesday january 31 - 06:25

I thought it'd kick this one off as no-one else seems to want to.

Is this the season someone finally ends up topping Seaburn Beach?

Can Jaypridee finally win a major?

Or will LBS add to their cup glory of last year and take the league by storm?

Is this the year that Canvey cause twice the problems that they have done previously?

All these questions and more will be answered over the next 50 days. For me, it's down to just one team now. Too many bugs unresolved have meant that it's just Scammonden remaining as my VIP has run down. At least the English league gets all my attention now. Scammonden Athletic have cleared a lot off players out and are financially better off than they were, but a lack of strength in depth may cause us to drop unnecessary points. If we qualify for Europe then it'll be a fine achievement. Good luck all!

I feel we could be in for a new champion this year. My money is on the Gothics.

My European adventure is over at the 2nd hurdle. On paper I'm much stronger than my opponent but I had it all to do in the 2nd leg after a disappointing 3:3 draw at home. A complaint has been filed with UEFA due to the poor condition of the frozen Romanian pitch but it's unlikely any action will be taken.

So, the battle to qualify again is under way but as my team was not strengthened during the transfer window, I'm not confident of repeating last season's heroics.

Good luck to all.

I agree with Alex, I think this is the season Seaburn loses its crown. The impossible goalkeeper is still there, but Lema has gone and I can see too many draws. LGA have added the high class GK they were missing - my money is on them too.

Personally I think I stay in the European places, somewhere between 2nd and 6th and wait for my strikers to keep improving :)

My surprising 2:2 draw away at Seaburn came at a cost, as I've lost another defender to a long-term injury (11 days).

I've only ever known Seaburn to be the champions......I'm not sure how I'll react if another team wins it (especially if it's my noisy neighbours).

Early days, but with Seaburn only 4th we really could have a new champion.

Definitely won't be me, but we've spent a few bob which might be enough for top half.

New chant for our new Greek midfielder - give me an S! Give me an A! ...

Well after the complete car crash that was the start of my season things are starting to look a little brighter - 5 wins on the bounce and climbing the table towards the European places. Any hope of challenging for the title was gone in those first 10 games when I managed to lose twice as many games as I did in the whole of last season. Top of the table looks interesting, but my money is still on LGA...

When the crowd are chanting "Sack the board" and its a fan-owned club then you know that you are in trouble. With many fans burning their membership cards on the terraces, it was not hard to foresee a change happening very soon. Enter stage left The Abbot and before the players had unwrapped their post match fish and chips, they were shepherded into the bus and incarcerated at the monastery. Can the Abbot transform the fortunes of this beleaguered club? Only time will tell.

"You started your management career at the Scammonden Daoists and you will finish it with this post, young Monk" lectured the Abbot, demonstrating that age is just an individual perspective. Things have indeed turned full circle and there is a strong argument that we should never have left England inn the first place. We will see what the monks can conjure up this time.

Teething problems at the monastery. Apparently a few of the young trainees didn't like the Abbot's new training regime of distance running at 5am each morning. Apparently it wasn't fair and they've got rights, you know. The electric fence was very clearly labeled though and why brother Scammell decided to try and climb up over it to escape is beyond me. It's generated a lot of paperwork although the police were very understanding given the circumstances and fully accepted the Abbot's explanation that it is there to keep undesirables out, not reluctant trainees in. Three reluctant trainees have left the monastery and gone to train at some Belgium club where the training starts art 11am and finishes at 3pm with an hour for lunch. Meanwhile the Abbot has insisted that anyone else not wanting to do the early start can leave their £3,000 a week job and he will find them one at the local Tescos where they will get £4.20 an hour. No takers as yet. Performances on the pitch remain erratic at best.

Newcastle's new Kiwi midfielder has certainly settled in nicely in his first season in the English league: he set-up 2 and scored 2 against me today, to take his season's tally to 20 goals and 9 assists.
