Popularity and Fan Shop Levels (7)

il Numpty >> friday february 3 - 09:31, Edited thursday february 16 - 10:19

Someone has asked me for the formulae for gaining fan base (popularity) from playing matches.

Most of the popularity information is in the fan shop reference table here:

https://rockingsoccer.com/en/soccer/help/facilities/facility-fanshop

But it lacks all of the detail so I thought I'd write it down in its own thread.

Regardless of the result all league and national cup matches give some new fans per match. These appear separately on the fan shop report so I have also listed them separately.

Where F is the fan shop level:

League and Cup Matches

  • 25 * (F+2) Casual fans
  • 25 * (F+2) Popularity

Extra fans depends on the result and whether the match is home or away.

Home Win

  • 40 * (F+2) Normal fans
  • 75 * (F+2) Casual fans
  • 235 * (F+2) Popularity

Home Draw

  • 15 * (F+2) Normal fans
  • 115 * (F+2) Casual fans
  • 175 * (F+2) Popularity

(Cup matches decided with penalties are classed as draws.)

Home Loss

  • Nothing

Away Win

  • 15 * (F+2) Normal fans
  • 120 * (F+2) Casual fans
  • 180 * (F+2) Popularity

Away Draw

  • 2.5 * (F+2) Normal fans
  • 175 * (F+2) Casual fans
  • 185 * (F+2) Popularity

(Cup matches decided with penalties are classed as draws)

Away Loss

  • 200 * (F+2) Casual fans
  • 200 * (F+2) Popularity

Notes

Based on the standard 20 team league. Other leagues will vary to compensate for the number of matches.

https://rockingsoccer.com/en/soccer/help/home/category-7/article-31

  • Income and popularity increase for different league sizes
  • As the size of the league differs between countries, the number of league matches you play in a season also differs. To compensate for this, the match income from league matches is higher in leagues with less matches. You also get more fans per match and from ticket sales.

Note - I don't have all the detail for playing continental matches. I can add that in if someone wants to provide it.

The fan conversion rates listed in the table are rounded and therefore slightly inaccurate. These increase by 20% with each fan shop level as follows:

Fanshop casual to normal fans:

  1. 0.0333333 % (= 1/30 %)
  2. 0.0400000 %
  3. 0.0480000 %
  4. 0.0576000 %
  5. 0.0691200 %
  6. 0.0829440 %
  7. 0.0995328 %
  8. 0.1194394 %
  9. 0.1433272 %
  10. 0.1719927 %

Fanshop normal to fanclub fans:

  1. 0.0125000 % (=1/80 %)
  2. 0.0150000 %
  3. 0.0180000 %
  4. 0.0216000 %
  5. 0.0259200 %
  6. 0.0311040 %
  7. 0.0373248 %
  8. 0.0447898 %
  9. 0.0537477 %
  10. 0.0644973 %

Selling Tickets

Here is the Help article on selling tickets.

https://rockingsoccer.com/en/soccer/help/home/category-10/article-24

Personally I find it very confusing and badly written. Sometimes the word ticket refers to just one ticket and sometimes it refers to a 'booklet' of many tickets, so it's not very clear. In addition some tickets count towards popularity and others don't. All very confusing.

This is my attempt to make it a little more understandable.

Ticket Booklets

Each time someone clicks your link you sell one ticket booklet. You can sell a maximum of 10 ticket booklets for each match. Each booklet must be sold to a different person and a unique IP-address.

The amount of tickets in each booklet varies with the level of your stadium. Every time your stadium is improved you'll sell another 5 tickets in each booklet. If your stadium has level 1 you can sell 10 tickets each time, if it has level 2 you sell 15, at level 3 you sell 20 ... and with stadium 11 you sell 60 tickets in each booklet.

The number of tickets in each booklet is:

  • 5 + 5 * Stadium Level

Total ticket sales

Assuming that you sell all 10 booklets for each match, then the total number of tickets sold is 10 times the size of the booklet. With stadium 1 you sell a total of 100 tickets, with stadium 2 you sell 150 tickets ... and with stadium 11 you sell 600 tickets.

All these tickets sales earn you extra fans and increase your popularity. They also increase your match attendance by the given amount.

Staff ticket sales

Most people will have stadium staff. When you click on your own ticket link you will see a greater number of tickets in each booklet and also the total ticket sales. This is because the stadium staff also sell tickets.

Level 1 staff sell 20 extra tickets per booklet ... increasing to 200 extra tickets per booklet for level 10 staff.

The number of tickets in each booklet is therefore:

  • 5 + 5 * Stadium Level + 20 * Stadium Staff Level

For example:

  • Stadium Level 1 with Staff level 10 has 210 tickets per booklet
  • Stadium Level 11 with Staff level 10 has 260 tickets per booklet

Total tickets sold per match is 10 times the size of each booklet - and match attendance is increased by the total number of tickets sold.

Fans & Popularity

The extra tickets sold by the stadium staff only increase match attendances and don't give you any extra fans or count towards popularity. So these are ignored by the fan shop, but it does make the numbers seem confusing when you look at your own ticket links.

Not counting the extra staff tickets, the number of tickets in each booklet is:

  • 5 + 5 * Stadium Level

Each ticket gives you 1 Normal Fan, so each booklet gives you:

  • Normal Fans = 5 + 5 * Stadium Level
  • Popularity = 4 * (5 + 5 * Stadium Level)

Multiply by 10 for the total of 10 booklets.

For stadium level 1:

  • Each booklet gives 10 Normal fans and 40 popularity
  • 10 booklets gives 100 Normal fans and 400 popularity

For stadium level 11:

  • Each booklet gives 60 Normal fans and 240 popularity
  • 10 booklets gives 600 Normal fans and 2400 popularity

Popularity with new buyers

The first time someone buys a ticket to your match 5 of the new fans will be Fanclub members instead of 5 Normal fans. This gives more popularity so it's always best to sell all your tickets to new buyers if you can.

Each booklet gives you:

  • 5 Fanclub fans
  • Normal Fans = 5 * Stadium Level
  • Popularity = 125 + 20 * Stadium Level

Multiply by 10 for the total of 10 booklets.

For stadium level 1:

  • Each booklet gives 5 Fanclub + 5 Normal fans and 145 popularity
  • 10 booklets gives 50 Fanclub + 50 Normal fans and 1450 popularity

For stadium level 11:

  • Each booklet gives 5 Fanclub + 55 Normal fans and 345 popularity
  • 10 booklets gives 50 Fanclub + 550 Normal fans and 3450 popularity

Attendance Formula

The formula has been derived by using the Attendance Calculator, here:

https://rockingsoccer.com/en/soccer/facilities/stadium/calculator

The main issue with using the Attendance Calculator is that because of the random element it gives a different result each time. The random element is fairly small and normally within 2-3% of the mean (average) attendance, but is a larger percentage at lower levels.

  • Match Attendance = Mean Attendance +/- Small random element

I would prefer to be able to calculate the likely mean attendance with any given popularity level, and with a formula it can be rearranged to calculate how much popularity is needed for a given attendance.  The formula also makes it easier to see the effect of all the different variables.

The formula calculates the likely mean attendance which can then be adjusted up or down by a small percentage.

Variables used in the formula

P = Popularity (of the home team)

OP (Opponent Popularity) =

  • 1 (0%-40%)
  • 1.25 (40%-115% )
  • 1.875 [=15/8] (115%-300%)
  • 2.1875 [=35/16] (Over 300%)

S (Stadium Staff) =

  • 1.06 - 1.15 (Staff Level 1-10)
  • 1 (no staff)

B (Attendance Bonus) =

  • 1.2 (live attendance)
  • 1.17 (VIP 3)
  • 1.1 (VIP 2)
  • 1.05 (VIP 1)
  • 1 otherwise.

T = Tickets sold via ticket links

League Matches

  • Mean Attendance = [0.016 * P * OP * S + T] * B

In effect this means that the chance off each fan type turning up for a league match (before bonuses) are:

  • Fan shop fan 40%
  • Normal fan 6.4%
  • Casual fan 1.6%

A common circumstance would be a club with Stadium 11, the maximum number of tickets sold, Staff level 10 and the live attendance bonus.

  • Mean Attendance = [0.016 * P * OP * 1.15 + 2600] * 1.2

Using this formula we can calculate the popularity required for a mean attendance of 200,000 against a bot team, given staff level 10 and the 20% attendance bonus.

P = [(200000 / 1.2) - 2600] / [0.016 * 1.15]

P = 8,916,667

Example

With staff level 10 and live attendance, how much attendance does an extra 1,000 popularity get me?

Mean Attendance = 0.016 * 1000 * OP * 1.15 * 1.2 = 22.08 * OP

Depending on the opponent the extra attendance will be:

  • 22 (0%-40%)
  • 28 (40%-115% )
  • 41 (115%-300%)
  • 48 (Over 300%)

Cup Matches (& Continental Matches)

Cup attendances for most established clubs are around 70-75% of the league attendances, but with no extra ticket sales.

However, this depends on the ratio of the different fan types, because Casual and Normal fans are even less likely to turn up for cup matches. For new clubs with a much lower ratio of Fan shop fans then cup attendances will be a little over 50% of league attendances.

The coefficient multiplier for each fan type is:

  • 0.0128 (Fan shop popularity) [=80% of league attendance]
  • 0.0080 (Normal and Casual popularity) [=50% of league attendance]

For comparison with league matches the formula is:

  • Mean Attendance = [0.0128 * FP + 0.008 * (NP + CP)] * OP * S * B

Where FP, NP and CP are Fan shop, Normal and Casual Popularity respectively.

However, since we're not given the popularity breakdown for each fan type separately, it's probably easier to use the fan numbers directly.

  • Mean Attendance = (0.32 * F + 0.032 * N + 0.008 * C) * OP * S * B

Where F, N and C are the number of Fan shop, Normal and Casual fans respectively.

Rough Approximation For Cup Matches

It's probably a lot of effort to work it out exactly. So this is a very rough guide to what you might expect compared to your normal league attendances as your popularity increases.

  • 3,000,000 popularity c. 62% league attendances
  • 5,000,000 popularity c. 69% league attendances
  • 7,000,000 popularity c. 72% league attendances
  • 10,000,000 popularity c. 75% league attendances
  • 13,000,000 popularity c. 76% league attendances

The percentage increases at higher popularity levels due to an increased ratio of Fanclub fans. This is just a guide as every club will be different.

Champions League Matches

Attendances are much higher and most clubs won't have a problem filling their stadium. Each fan type is treated differently here too.

The coefficient multiplier for each fan type is:

  • 0.0324 (Fan shop popularity)
  • 0.0240 (Normal popularity)
  • 0.0400 (Casual popularity)

Giving:

    • Mean Attendance = [0.0324 * FP + 0.024 * NP + 0.04 * CP ] * OP * S * B
    • Mean Attendance = [0.81 * F + 0.096 * N + 0.04 * C ] * OP * S * B

Friendly Match Attendances

This is obviously not important, but thought I'd just add this on for completeness.  Figures are not given by the Attendance Calculator so this is based on a quick survey of a few matches and may not be 100% accurate..

It seems to me that the attendances are exactly the same as playing against a bot team (the opponent makes no difference), but without any ticket link sales and no attendance bonus.

  • Mean Attendance = 0.016 * P * S

With stadium staff level 10 this is simply 0.0184 * Popularity.

In the first post it seems like losing away matches gives the highest popularity gain, is that correct?

Correct.

They are also different fan types with away losses only giving Casual fans. However, in the longer term - as a result of fan conversions - the extra Casual fans give an even greater popularity gain than the starting values. (Terms and conditions apply.)

This provides very little incentive for users to win their away matches when they are trying to grow their fan base. So that's very poor design.

But all I can do is document how it works. And that's how it works.
