Season 53 (41)

eng Stephen >> saturday july 4 - 14:37

The season returns today with the no doubt traditional defeat to Newcastle in the Super Cup for Seaburn. It’s been all change at the Beach during the off-season (though not in the style of Cast’s mid-90s album of that name. That said, there was a sandstorm in Seaburn which led to me seeing many colours but the only one that’s coming through is red. But I might also be seeing red after the accountant showed me the balance sheet.)

Out went club legends Nascimento and Minh Ky, before Seaburn splashed the cash, breaking their transfer record not once but twice. This included breaking the League of England transfer record by about £100. Yes, I accept this is a massive overpayment but hopefully I might be able to make a small amount back from the annual jumble sale which is taking place a week on Wednesday. Come along, there’ll be a raffle drawn by Micah Tustin and you can win dinner with Dylan Farrington and a signed shirt from record appearance holder Bjorn Fuerst. What could be more fabulous than that?

I always thought Zhuan was a bot with a sign in to monitor and analyse games. Jady too. That's why they are always attending games.

A quarter of the season gone and what’s this? Melchester Rovers and Bolt On Wonderbras riding high in the table? It looks like there might be a new world order in the league. Here at the Beach, we’re scratching our heads and wondering whether this is a sustainable challenge. A narrow 2-1 victory over Rovers last night ended their 100% record, but the match was tougher than it has been in recent seasons...

A season of highs and lows so far. I started with the low of rejection from my fellow managers in my quest to manage my national team. The dutch winner got twice the number of votes I did and although I've congratulated him, my dream of leading my country looks further away than ever. After a couple of days lying down in a dark room, I hit the whiskey and phoned Big Sam, seeking his advice on national rejection. He suggested applying to talksport radio. Eventually, I got out my Kevin Keegan autobiography and after a triple read, got myself going again. Angola's national fortunes continue to take a turn for the worse. Perhaps my destiny lies there.

On the pitch my best start ever raises hopes for a top four finish. Cardiff seem to have capitulated for now, so the chance is there. Paolo Liatti is clearly benefitting from Roy's pep talks and our new keeper has made a massive impact. He's showing his experience by actually standing between the goalposts during a game.

Disaster struck in our first European campaign. Despite winning our debut tie, a dodgy penalty and an own goal meant we were constantly chasing the second tie, which ran away from us. Poor management and I feel I let you all down. I apologise.

Sustainable? Only a word that's entered my vocabulary this morning. Kevin doesn't use words like sustainable. On a positive note, today sees the opening of our 200,000 stadium. That will bring more cash in. But the rumour that the electricity bill has not yet been paid is true, finances are very tight and my squad is thin and old. We'll probably get worse, then better again.

Good luck all and thanks to those of you who voted for me for England manager.

Well my reasonably good start to the season is likely to come crashng to an end this evening. Seaburn to play at 23:46 with an away game just a few hours later.

Not helped by the fact I'm away tonight and most likely won't be able to put right any problems caused by the Seaburn game (injuries. suspensions). Making defeat in the following game very likely too (as I sexpect my usual drubbing by Seaburn).

Hmm. Was Dragontao a celebrity in the 70s who has yet to be nobbled by Operation Yewtree? “Sexpect”? Sounds immoral to say the least.

Dragontao exposed.

That's what you get when the Wonderbra is slipping...

A ludicrous day of fixtures for the Beach today. A CL away match at 0815, followed by a league away match an hour later. Thankfully, no injuries and a slightly reshuffled and tired side managed a narrow 0-1 win following on from the 0-0 draw in Estonia.

Then a narrow 0-10 win to start the defence of the U21 Youth Cup...

The lads can now return to the Beach and put on their flip flops and swimming trunks. Or at least they can do that if they wish to develop hypothermia. It’s supposed to be summer, apparently.

64 consecutive league wins has come to an end. I wish it hadn’t had to end like this though:

Some classic ME action.

A bit tough to take that one @Stephen. Especially when he seems to have conceded the match by fielding some weak players.

Is that tongue-in-cheek? :)

He was missing his 2 strongest centre backs and also played a 16 year old midfielder and a 14 year old striker. Not to mention the 3 subs that came on at half time ...
