Season 60 (64)

fo BakerMan >> saturday july 3 - 08:50

Well here we are again. I've just sold my beautiful Albanian goalkeeper who has, sometimes single-handedly, been responisble for lots of the good results I'vev had over the last few years, so this season is going to be one of trying desperately to hold on to a European place.

My cash flow should be sorted for a few seasons now - just a case of hanging on until those level 5 YA grads start to come through.

My tip for the title - Seaburn Beach

Over the last few seasons my strategy has changed as often as the tides, from:

- Bringing in strong older players (short-term planning to basically just stay up), to

- Buying high-talented youth, with the intention of nurturing and training them into first team stars (long-term planning but with relegation risk), to

- Buying a mixture of strong players (maximum of 26/27 years old), along with 1 or 2 high-talented youth for future development

I was pleased with last season's final position, and hope that the revised transfer strategy results in something similar this season.

My money is on Seaburn.

Melchester Rovers have been busy in the market selling a wunderkind to Seaburn but spending the money on some very handy players indeed. I think they're going to be real contenders this season.

I'm also impressed by Canvey Pixels' transfer strategy. Some quality players have arrived and this could be the season they push up the table and make a real impact.

I've been mainly collecting players for the future and/or to fund my ridiculous wage bill. The team are pretty much the same one that played last season, albeit I'm hoping to be a bit stronger in midfield. Tabuyo's passing of around 8.5 is now so high that I've got my fingers crossed he should now be able to offset the handicap of 'tournament player', especially away from home.

A SuperCup is now in the bag and we get down to business tomorrow against Birmingham Hunter. As long as Addo stays fit, I think Seaburn will be strong contenders.

Fair play to Uncle Ben Parker today. A goal and then two yellow cards for diving. Personally, I thought it was poor refereeing. Those defenders may not have made contact with Parker, but they definitely looked at him funny. #game'sgone

And that'll be the end of Northampton's stay in the top flight you'd have thought. A bot team after a jumper stays just long enough to drop another level off all facilities. No one (sane) would take this team now.

Made the mistake of scoring first against Melchester today:

After a confidence-boosting home win in our first game, the boys have been brutally brought down to Earth by consecutive heavy defeats to Cardiff and Newcastle.

I told them to ignore Stephen's pre-season hype.......but they wouldn't listen.

EDIT: the Melchester fans also went home very happy today.

Only 4 games gone and the league table is already looking very familiar.

Expecting to see Northampton passing through tier 2 next season. They'll be a bit of a nuisance though as they still have some decent players.

After an abysmal start to the season the Mostly Unmanaged board have urged manager Dragontao to go back to mostly not managing the team.

Useless fact # 1: Seaburn last lost a league game on January 4th (season 56).

Useless fact # 2: Canvey Pixels will not win the league this season.

Hey - that means I was the last team to beat Seaburn in the league!

Sadly it'll be a few seasons before I get near that again...we all need Addo to discover a deep love of macrame so he can retire to his true calling,

So that's what was inside all those Amazon parcels addressed to Mr K. Addo, c/o Old Tram Shelter.

If that is the way it all ends for him, then I can have no complaints. I'll keep a careful eye on him though as I don't need him introducing the younger players to it. I have a difficult enough time getting them into the training ground rather than frittering away their time at the shoreline mastering the ancient art of stone skimming. They don't need another distraction.

What's the last thing you need the dayy before playing Seaburn away. Yes, that's right, your number one keeper picking up a serious injury.

The physio is on Standby for my reserve keeper's aching back.
